A feature called Discover appears as a fourth tab in the navigation bar, at the bottom of the Spotify app, between Home and Search.
Spotify is known to be launching a new way of listening to songs with a concept similar to TikTok short videos. Quoted from TechCrunch (26/11), the company has confirmed that it is testing a feature called Discover in its application.
Discover presents a vertical feed of music videos that users can scroll through to move to the next song. According to users who got the trial, the feature appears as a fourth tab in the navigation bar, at the bottom of the Spotify app, between Home and Search.
The addition of this new feature was first reported by Chris Messina who shared it via video on Twitter. Messine said the feature is in the TestFlight build of Spotify or the beta version for iOS. Apart from surfing a feed similar to TikTok and Reels, users can also click the like button or tap the three-dot menu for information pages.
"At Spotify, we routinely perform a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience," a Spotify spokesperson told TechCrunch. “Some of those tests ultimately paved the way for our broader user experience and others served only as important lessons. We have no further news to share at this time.”
In other words, testing of the Discover feature is still very early and probably won't be officially rolled out eventually. Besides that, Spotify seems to be working on changing the format of its streaming service to a social media format that engages a lot of users.
Previously, the company was known to be testing a Stories feature that would allow influencers to upload short videos to introduce their own curated playlists. Unfortunately, the feature was never released to users.
