We're not sure if we're excited or sick to our stomach about Disney+, but we definitely fall somewhere in between! But is this new streaming service worth the cost? Should you stop paying for other streaming services as well? Well, let's just say "yes" if you're a lover of Disney, Pixar, Star Wars, or Marvel. Let's find out if Disney+ provides everything you could possibly need for streaming.
What is the price of Disney+?
Why should I worry, asks Disney+. with plenty of content, 4K streaming, no advertisements, a cheap pricing, and more. The monthly cost of Disney+ is a significant benefit over other streaming services. With the exception of Hulu and HBO Max, the cost of your Disney+ streaming service is comparable to other streaming providers and less per month.
Although Hulu initially costs a dollar less each month, keep in mind that the free version includes advertisements. On the other side, Disney+ is ad-free. It's really sparkly.
Additionally, your annual subscription will save you money if you pay for a full year of Disney sing-alongs and Marvel superhero action. The annual price is $79.99, which is roughly a $16 savings from the monthly pricing, which adds up to about $96 over the course of the year.
Can we put those savings toward our Disneyland park admission?
Hulu, ESPN+, and Disney+ combined
You'll be relieved to learn that there is some ESPN+ action waiting just around the river bend if you believe the only sports activity you'll see on Disney+ is the scene from the 6th Annual College X Games in An Extremely Goofy Movie. (Sorry, we couldn't resist the pun.)
The Disney Bundle, which costs $13.99 per month and includes Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, is included with Disney+. Yes, you may watch A Handmaid's Tale, sports, and Disney+ content at the same time.
Expect occasional advertisements since the bundle only includes the most basic Hulu subscription. For $19.99 per month, you can upgrade to the version without advertisements. The amount of sportsball in this bundle, though, should make up for it if you're a sports fan. And we truly mean it.
Golf, tennis, boxing, ESPN films, MLB, MLS, and NHL games are all available on ESPN+. Win Utes! Rugby and cricket are two international sports that you should watch. And SportsCenter, too. Who could anyone forget that?
User experience for Disney+
The Disney+ streaming service launched in the Netherlands earlier in 2021, and while the majority of user reaction was good, there are a few areas where we hope Disney made improvements.
The app doesn't immediately begin the next episode in a series, according to Dutch users, which makes it challenging to unwind and binge-watch your favorite shows. However, a response from Disney demonstrates that the business is actively developing that functionality. They might be able to use a genie.
Numerous users also mentioned numerous buffering problems. However, keep in mind that those fortunate Dutch consumers were a part of a beta test, therefore the entire goal was to flush out these kinds of issues. Therefore, hold off on making hasty judgments about the app's quality just yet.
A few screenshots of the app make us think of the Netflix app. However, given how wonderful Netflix has been for us, we don't mind. (Right? Don't fix what isn't broken. We certainly hope that the Disney+ "recommended for you" algorithm is equally accurate.
Recap: Is Disney+ worth it?
If you love everything Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar, you should subscribe to Disney+ since, over time, those shows will be removed from other streaming platforms. And we think it's really cool that Disney went above and beyond to provide its viewers a few undiscovered gems like The Simpsons and The Mandalorian.
Disney+ is less expensive than Netflix and Amazon Prime Video at $7.99 per month. Alternatively, you can pay for a year in advance and receive around two months for free. Alternatively, opt for the $13.99/month ESPN+ plus Hulu combination, which is a great deal.
Disney+ has over 600 films in its catalog, so it would be difficult to run out of things to watch. The abundance of content from the Disney vault, Marvel, and Star Wars is the largest benefit, though. Many of them are time-honored favorites, and a couple of the newer ones seem promising as well.
App: We haven't given the Disney+ app a final judgment yet, but the Dutch beta seemed promising. There are a few glitches that Disney needs to iron out, including buffering, the inability to have the next episode automatically play, and problems with older devices.
The cost of $7 a month isn't prohibitive to join up for the service or at least test it out. You might discover that you only keep watching Disney, in which case you can bid your other streaming services farewell. (Sorry, I had to make a throwaway allusion to The Mickey Mouse Club.)
